TEFAF MAASTRICHT 2020

On the occasion of TEFAF Maastricht 2020, Galerie Le Minotaure will present a selection of works recalling the major movements and leading artists of the art history in the first half of the 20th century.

First of all, we will return to the origins of abstraction, presenting the cubist and post-cubist pieces by Robert Delaunay, Fernand Léger, Louis Marcoussis and Serge Charchoune. Delaunay’s gouache Flèche de Notre Dame de Paris (1909) announce the famous Orphic series “Fenêtres” which, during the first Salon de la Section d’Or (1912), marked the first step towards the end of Cubism.

In the 1910s, Frantisek Kupka and Léopold Survage were among the first artists to arrive tonon-figurative painting through the world of music.

The 1930s saw the dynamic progression of abstract art within groups such as Art Concret, Cercle et Carré and Abstraction Creation. Its geometric branch is represented on our booth by Auguste Herbin, Léon Tutundjian and Carl Buchheister and the non-geometric (or biomorphic) by the sculptor, Étienne Béothy and César Domela who will later develop thehighly original practice of relief.

The birth, in the 1920s, of surrealism will be symbolically recalled by the figure of Jean Arp and his relief La fourchette (1927-28).

To balance this historic selection, we decided to give voice to a few contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Louise Bourgeois, Annette Message and Judith Reigl.
